have this number.

I.D. number near distributor and above generator. Most
Dearborn blocks used in trucks. No Dearborn blocks after 1957. There
were no special truck blocks. Heavy duty trucks with steel cranks used C1AE or
C2AE car blocks. Nearly all Dearborn blocks after 1954 were 272's. Most 292 and
312 blocks are from the Cleveland foundry. www.ford-y-block.com

Much of this information was assembled by Mr. Lee Reese. Thank you!
*Compression ratios listed are from Ford literature and are theoretic figures that exclude deck volume and head gasket displacement. Most compression ratios are approximately 9% high.
When engines are rebuilt with composition head gaskets deduct about 12% for actual compression.
Do to the thinness of the deck surface of some Y-Block heads, particularly the ECZ-G heads, it is recommended that unposted heads not be milled more than .025". Posted heads have been milled up to .045" without trouble.
Heads with large "S" in between center exhaust valves are service replacement heads as date codes are after production run.

B9TE was replacement for 5750-471 B9AE was replacement for 5752-113

HOW TO IDENTIFY A 312
IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO ABSOLUTELY IDENTIFY A 312 EXTERNALLY!
312's were installed in 1956 Mercurys and some 1956 Thunderbirds. Many 1957 Thunderbirds had 312's and all 1957 Mercurys had 312's unless equipped with the 368 Turnpike Cruiser engine. Some 1957 Fords had the 312, typically station wagons, Fairlane 500's ect. All 1956 and '57 312's had 4 barrel carbs. From 1958 to 1960 312's were only installed in Mercurys. No 312's were installed in trucks at the factory!!!!!
BLOCK CASTING NUMBER:
312's can have the following block casting numbers ECZ-6015A, ECZ-6015C,EDB-6015E, B9AE-6015F. Of these ECZ-6015A and ECZ-6015C are by far the most common 312's and are likely to be a 312. Some 312 replacement blocks were C2AE-6015C. Any of these numbers can also be a 292. The following blocks have never been seen as a 312: EBU, EBY, EBV, ECG, ECK.
CRANKSHAFT:
312 crankshafts typically have an identifying mark on the crankshaft flange. This cannot be seen if the engine is installed in the vehicle with an automatic transmission. On a manual transmission vehicle the mark might be seen between the block and flywheel. If the engine is out of the vehicle and the bellhousing is removed the mark can be seen. Many 312 cranks are stamped ECZ, but not all are.
Outer edge of flange DOT ON FLANGE
Not all 312 cranks have this aspirin size raised dot!
MAIN CAPS:
312 main caps are always marked ECZ , all other Y-Block main cap are marked EBU. This is the only positive way to identify a 312 block.
LINCOLN Y-Block 279-302-332-317-341-368
Introduced
in 1952 this was Ford's first production overhead valve V-8. Original
displacement was 317 cu. inch for Lincolns and 279 cu inches for truck use. The
Lincoln version was increased to 341 cu. in. in 1955 and then 368 cu. in. for
'56-'57. The truck engine was used until 1963 in 279, 302 and 332 cu. in.
displacements. Very similar in appearance to the Ford Y-Block
only larger.
Lincoln Y-Block outfitted for HD truck use. Later versions were 302 and 332 cu. in. with 3.66" steel cranks.

332 cu. in.

crankshaft. Not the same as 332 FE
The early Lincoln V8 can be increased to 425+ cu. in. 1957 and later heads had reinforcing posts and larger exhaust valves. ECU heads are generally used for performance along with the 60's 332 cu in truck 4 bbl intake which accepts modern 4 bbl carbs. 302 and 332 trucks had steel crankshafts which can be welded for stroker use. Stroke has been increased to 4.10".
